I don't know what is it about CLAMP, that keeps me coming back so often. Sadly these days you don't find many people to discuss chapters, pairings and such since their fanbase is mostly older by now and communities these days are far more disperse than they used to be.

BUT I MUST! TALK. Tumblr doesn't really cut it. I don't know why, really, it's like I've been distancing myself from it entirely. Nevermind that, It's almost a monthly ritual of mine to re-read HOLiC and scrutinize it for hints of a conclusion, since we once again are stuck in a hiatus with no end in sight. CCS Clear Card has been lovely, a bit unneeded perhaps but hey, new content is always good. I'm not sure if it will tie into HOLiC directly, but CLAMP is obviously waiting for it to catch up. Keeping up with that Rei cliffhanger for months, almost a year now,  has been gut wrenching (when I'm staring off into space and remember it at least).

One of these days I had that epiphany that most likely the point of The Egg is that, unless Watanuki forgets Yuuko, he'll never leave the shop. The early chapters of the manga strongly imply Yuuko had foreseen the outcome of the story all the way to Rei (which is why I believe she snagged 3 of the Yumekai's balloons and constantly warns Watanuki in earlier chapters about the importance of pinkies, Himawari, Kohane, etcetera - all signs he is going down the path she foresaw). It's also constantly said only people who need the shop, will see it, and will enter it. Therefore, if Yuuko were to "return" (or as per CLAMP's rules, her essence at least) but did not need a Wish fulfilled, this basically would mean they would never meet again. Hence why the egg would become necessary.

Also, in one of the few last chapters before the disappearance of Yuuko, she says the next time Watanuki visits the Fortune Teller, everything will have been settled. CLAMP doesn't usually leave loose threads, and his last visit was exactly before that line and it didn't happen again once he became the shop keeper, so I still have hope for the future. Maybe someday we'll reach a conclusion.

And that was my periodic HOLiC TED talk! Let's go on with life folks. I'll be back, don't worry.
